Wyer Pearse House - 2016

Wyer Pearse House sets atop a hill just across the street from the Excelsior Post Office. I admire its elegance and detail - and unlike the multi -colored Victorian painted ladies, it is a monochrome lady. This is a practical approach to  house painting. I wonder - has it always been this way?

Gray's Bay Ghost

I took this photo years ago, at Gray's Bay in the early morning light. A ghost pensively paced the shoreline.

The bay-trees in our country are all wither'd
And meteors fright the fixed stars of heaven;
The pale-faced moon looks bloody on the earth
And lean-look'd prophets whisper fearful change.

(Richard II, 2.4)

Cool May Running

The morning temperature is 37 degrees. I put on my winter running gear, because this is Minnesota. I stop by the docks in Excelsior Bay and the wind is formidable. Bots are rocking, and no boady is knocking except jack frost.

Now for some science: The first prehistoric pianists

The very first piano playing animals were amphibious, (Ichthyoklavierus) their lives  spanning the late Carboniferous and early Permian periods.  They could only sustain short primal melodies and ayres before returning to water. Still, for millions of years they dominted the music scene and eventually evolved fingers and even toes to work the damper pedal.

Lake Minnetonka Half Marathon - with 1/2 mile to go!

I had just finished my morning run and I noticed the Lake Minnetonka Marathon signs. I decided to catch the lead runners as they passed.
Here are some random shots just before the runners began their final turn ( or 2)
to the finish in Excelsior Commons.

The overall winners were Dan Neilson - who shot past me before I could photo him properly - that's him in the first photo flying by for a 1:09 finishing time.
The lead woman, Krisina Hoff was running at the time I photographed her, with a male runner pacing her (so it appeared). Her time was 1:26.
