Dry and Deep, Friday Fun Facts

Friday fun facts. Yes in a land of over 11,000 lakes there are four unlucky counties, in respect to lakes.

From the Minnesota DNR:
Counties with no natural lakes:

Mower
Olmsted
Pipestone
Rock

In respect to the number of counties, Minnesota has 62 counties. I have often wondered how we have arrive at this number of counties, but that is a whole other can of worms. And to continue with other lake trivia, here are some deep discoveries.

Deepest inland lake:
Portsmouth Mine Pit near Crosby (450 feet and rising)

Deepest natural lake:
Lake Saganaga, Cook County (240 feet deep)

Depths of other lakes:

Lake Superior -- 1,290 feet
Ten Mile - Cass County 209 feet
Loon Lake - Cook County 202 feet
Minnetonka - Hennepin County 113 feet
Mille Lacs - Mille Lacs County 42 feet
Upper Red Lake -Beltrami County 18 feet
