Excelsior Commons under water
Featuring personal photos of the Lake Minnetonka Area and things of interest to the author.
At first I thought it meant 40 years ago, then I realized that it refers to the length of time "Danceland" was around.
Lake Minnetonka Water Level (feet above sea level): 930.55 "When the lake level reaches 930.0 feet, water begins to flow over the emergency overflow weir north of the dam. When that occurs, the "Water Levels" block will indicate the additional flow from over the weir." MCWD
They were folding up their tents when I arrived on Saturday. High winds and heavy rained prompted the event's cancellation. Disappointment. I walked through a few inches of soggy grass to sneek a closing peek at some of the artist's work. Sigh.
I awarded my "Favorite" Award to Christine Naskias' very warm and expressionstic paintings. "They Boys of Summer"
Best animal in the Beastiary Category went to the local geese and goslings.
Soon even the colorful orbs had departed.

Art on the Lake allows me to exercise my critical aesthetic skills. I try, like most, to pick out my favorite pieces in a few self-ordained categories. Non existent Awards are posted.
1. The Most "Lakeworthy". This is "Art on the Lake" after all.
2. Best Eccentric Art.
3. Best Fish. May overlap with #1.
4. My favorite.
5. Best pet. This category really just depends upon when I am attending. There are always a plethora of pals - perhaps I should designate this category: "The Beastiary".
"The Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Chamber will host its 34th annual Art on the Lake on June 14th & 15th, 2014. Free parking & shuttle from Minnetonka High School." From their Face Book Page.
High water on Lake Minnetonka. Fox News Channel 9: "For nearly two weeks, the dam at Gray's Bay has been wide open, filling the normally quiet creek with raging rapids. "Downstream along Minnehaha Creek, it's pretty much bank full," Tammy Mamayek, with the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District, told Fox 9 News. Although maxing out the dam's 300-cubic-feet-per-second discharge makes for a spectacular show at Minnehaha Falls in Minneapolis, Lake Minnetonka is still swollen and shoreline erosion is a real concern." The photo above is from Gray's Bay. The high water level illustrated clearly.
A memorial yellow cross lays on it’s side. Along the water’s edge is a little makeshift jetty and candle. I remembe the incident. The car plunged through the ice in the winter of 2013 and was not totally submerged, but the passenger and driver could not escape. They were rushed to the hospital with hopes of reviving them, but both died of exposure. - That is my recollection of the incident.
The morning lake was serene.
