Excelsior Academy Days 1885
From "The Northwest Tourist" May 30, 1885: "The cornerstone of Excelsior Academy was laid on Wednesday, May 27 1885. in the presence of seven or eight hundred people. Many from Wayzata, St. Paul, and Minneapolis to witness the ceremony and the occasion was one of great interest, not only to the citizens but to visitors. The latter were met at the motor terminus by the Board of Trustees, in carriages and a procession was formed and moved to the Academy grounds located about a half mile distant, Commander E. R. Perkins of Frank W. Halstead Post acting as Marshall."

Gianni's in the rain. September
Dinner at Gianni's. The rain finally arrived on Saturday night. We hadn't dined at Gianni's in a while, so a cozy dinner at Gianni's was a treat. I will not venture to write food criticism, but offer up my continuing theory: The chefs are more adventurous in appetizers than in entree's. Perhaps the customer's is a little willing to take a risk. Or perhaps I am. Our bruchetta with buffalo mozzarella and rasberry balsamic vinegar tomatillos (this is my description) I have forgotten the actual name, was surprising good. Service was excellent.

Excelsior Apple Days 5K
Here comes the winner with a bicycle escort.
Collin Bredeson 31 Excelsior, MN 18:57
The winning woman puts on her kick with 100 yards to go.
Natalie Conrad 24 21:43
I walked down to the Excelsior Commons looking for the finish line for the Apple Days 5K. I had misread the Google Map. Typical. So with only a few minurtes t o spare I hurried to the finish line along the Laske Minnetonka Trail and I arrived just in time to catch the first finishers.
It was 75 degrees and humid and it felt warm.
It was the first running of the Apple Days 5K and I caught the runners at the very last 100 yards when they can see the finish line clock and give it a little gun at the end.
I admit I was envioius.

The sixth.
Or you may call it number nine. Depends on which side of the dock you are on. Tomorrow September 7th, is the first running of the Apple Day 5k. I am going to take a few shots of the runners en route. I will take a position around the 2 - 2.9 mile mark. Stop by later on Saturday and see if I succeeded in getting any quality shots.

Reflecting on a Turkey Burger
1985, near Spicer MN. I was relaxing and gazing out at Green Lake. My bourbon-primed host was a ranking member of “The American Turkey Growers Association”. He spoke glowingly to me about the potential of the turkey market, like the neighbor in the Graduate spoke of “plastics”. The marketing of turkey as a year-round food staple was a passion of my host. He offered me a job, he offered everyone a job! He loved turkey marketing - come to Spicer and sell that turkey! I contagiously agreed. .. about the gobbler’s potential. I had read about the boom in turkey sales in Advertising Age Magazine. I was an expert. But I was not moving to Spicer, even with a bourbon chaser. I remember that conversation when ever I order a heart- healthy turkey burger at Maynards... or I grill a turkey breast, make turkey chili, or a turkey tourrine. He was right. - and He flips me the bird.
